Today is
Anzac Day in Australia. This day commemorates the sacrifices made by thousands of Australians and New Zealanders at Gallipoli during World War I. We owe our mates down under an incalculable debt of thanks for their support of the Anglo-American alliance in the century since Gallipoli; they remain to this day our most stalwart ally.
Jules Crittenden has an excellent roundup of contemporary accounts of the Gallipoli campaign for those of us who are not as familiar as we ought to be with that heroic but ill-fated endeavor.
