Two Polish men were arrested while frantically trying to retrieve a safe they had buried on a beach underneath the high tide mark.[Previous TGIS]
The bungling thieves Hapless Kaszubski, 20, and his friend Patryk Arciszewski, 19, stole the 449 pound safe from a seaside guest house in Kolobzreg before dragging it onto the beach to open it, the Croatian Times reports.
Unable to get it open, the men then buried the safe, unaware that the location was below the high tide line, until they could return with tools to break the lock.
As they were trying to retrieve the safe the next day before the tide came in, the men were taken into custody by police, who had been tipped off by local residents watching the recovery effort.
